Obituaries of Buchanan County Virginia Natives for September, 1999


ROWE, Va. -- Funeral services for Dors Cleveland Coxton will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Rowe Free Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Revs. Ancil Childress and Arvil Arwood will officiate. The body will be taken to the church an hour before the services. Burial will be in a family cemetery near the home. Mr. Coxton, 59, of the Stinson Ridge section, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in a Kingsport hospital. He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late Dora Coxton Sanders. He lived most of his life in Buchanan County and the past seven years on Stinson Ridge. He was employed as a coal miner and construction worker. Surviving are two sons, Anthony Scott Coxton of Honaker and Richard William Coxton of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Tammy C. Penley and Dreama C. Lampkin, both of Lebanon; two brothers, Leonard Coxton of Abingdon and Jim Coxton of Del Ray Beach, Del.; three sisters, Dorothy Looney of Richlands, Jean Fletcher of Marion and Janie Rife of Manassas, Va.; and three grandsons. Among survivors are three grandsons, Daylan Coxton, Jacob Lampkin and Zachary Wamsley; and a very special friend, Carolyn Wamsley. Pallbearers will be Bob Coxton, Sonny Coxton, John L. Coxton, Burky Coxton, Joe Coxton, Scottie Coxton, Bill Coxton and Darrell Coxton. Honorary pallbearers will be Van Lester, Johnny Street, Larry Street, Ronnie Lester, Joe Martin, Perry Compton and Jimmy Miller. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday in Honaker Funeral Home.

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. -- George Ellis Jackson, 75, of the Deskins section, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at his home. He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late Madison Perry Jackson and Prissilla Boyd Jackson. He was of the Baptist faith and a disabled coal miner. Surviving are four sisters, Jenoa Compton of Davenport, Va., Emma Street and Betty Boyd, both of Vansant, Va., and Dolly Smith of Oakwood, Va.; a brother, William C. Jackson of Council, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelist Michael Trent, the Rev. Clinton Dales and Fred Meadows will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va. Mr. Jackson was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Jackson and Elbert Jackson; and a sister, Edna Jackson. Among survivors are a good friend, Fred Meadows of Vansant. Pallbearers will be Clayton Perkins, Grayson Perkins, Roger Perkins, David Meadows, Arville Meadows and Curtis Charles. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Meadows, Clinton Barton, Chris Smith, Clinton Dales, Irvon Stumbo and Kyle Meadows. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
